Calumet College of St. Joseph take on the IUSB Titans.

In a sobering day for the men's basketball team, Calumet College of St. Joseph handed the Titan men their first loss at home this season, 73-69 on January 17 at the Student Activities Center.

The Titan men didn't lead at one point in the entire game, falling behind 6-0 in the initial minutes. The Titans battled back to pull the score within 1, but then a string of poor offense and sloppy transition defense let the Crimson Wave run wild with a 11-0 run that put the score 24-8 in favor of Calumet.

At that point, Titan players Chris Beam and Kyle Heatherly turned up the heat and turned in 15 combined points while the team played solid defensively and were able to climb back into the game. After what had looked to be a poor initial effort, the Titans had rallied to pull within 5 points at halftime, the Crimson Wave leading 28-23.

In the second half, the Titans played solidly but the Crimson Wave maintained their lead. A late surge by the Titans put the game within one possession, 72-69 with less than 20 seconds left on the clock. A wild succession of 3-point attempts in the final seconds by various players on the Titan squad fell everywhere but the basket, and the Crimson Wave held on for the victory.

The next home game for the Titan men will be on January 21 at 2 p.m. against the Holy Cross Saints. The game will be the second part of a double header. Come out and support your IUSB Titans.
