What were the Criminal Justice students doing in Weikamp Hall on Wednesday? Selling K9 calendars of course! You may not have seen it because there were so many students surrounding the table that it was difficult to get to.
The support for the four-legged officers and this fund-raising event is strong here on campus. In less than two hours the students made $275.00 for the South Bend K9 Boosters organization created by Linda Myers. 100 percent of the funds raised from these $15.00 calendars will be used to support a new local permanent training facility for the police dogs of South Bend and Mishawaka.
This is the first of several fund raising events the South Bend and Mishawaka K9 Units are doing to generate interest and support. Future events will bring opportunities for the public to meet and even interact with the K9 partners. The South Bend K9 Boosters plan on publishing articles, interacting with people directly on Facebook and also posting information about dog training, hygiene and nutrition.
More information can be found at their website www.southbendk9boosters.org or their Facebook page "South Bend K9 Boosters." The monthly pictures of the officers and their partners are available for preview on the "Buy Calendar" tab.
According to Jennifer Colanese, Acting Assistant Professor of the Criminal Justice Department, the Criminal Justice students will return to Weikamp Hall if they don't sell out of the calendars on hand. She and her students have proven that the combination of IU South Bend spirit along with a solid determination to support a worthy cause equals great success.
