Student veterans and their families now have a place to meet with other veterans. The Student Veterans Organization was created in the fall 2009 to recognize student veterans on the IU South Bend and Purdue University Technology campuses.
The organization exists to provide information not only for the IUSB and PU Technology campuses, but also for the faculty. Concerns such as classroom and special needs of the veterans, providing a support group for veterans, setting up networks of students and alumni, and promoting communication between IUSB and PU Technology veterans are all part of the organization.
There are currently over 180 veterans and their families on campus, but not all of them go to the meetings. The SVO is open to all students who wish to join.
They are looking for suggestions from current members or new members for events for the club. The next meetings are 8:30 a.m. March 24 and 8:30 a.m. April 24 in the Student Activities Center, room 206.
For more information you can contact the vice president, Kevin Grainger at klgraing@umail.iu.edu. or email the club directly at svoiusb@iusb.edu. The organization is also on Facebook at SVOIUSB, and the website is www.iusb.edu/~svoiusb.
