Travel Safety
According to US Department of state, tourists are often targeted by criminals because they fail to properly prepare before embarking on a trip. Here are some things you can do to minimize your risk:
1. Be aware of your surroundings
2. Leave symbols of affluence at home. Travel with as few valuables as possible.
3. Check the latest travel advice for your destination.
4. Consider appropriate travel insurance.
5. Leave a copy of your travel itinerary with someone at home and keep in regular contact with friends and relatives while overseas.
6. Do not leave your luggage unattended in public areas, and never accept packages from strangers.
7. Select your own taxi at random. Never take a vehicle that is not clearly identified as a taxi.
8. If possible, travel with others.
9. Be cautious about what you discuss with strangers or what others may overhear.
10. Obey the law. Consular assistance cannot override local laws, even where local laws appear harsh or unjust by American standards.
